Job Interview and Interview Hair

I got a call for a job interview which is scheduled for this week. That was fast. I wasn't expecting an interview so soon. This position sounds really great too. It is a very good firm. I imagine the pay and benefits would be much better. I'm very happy for this opportunity. Hopefully, I won't be unemployed for long.

So now on to my next worry...my hair. Particularly, how should I wear my hair for interviews. I've been wearing my hair in a fro. It has been looking sort of raggedy lately. My ends look like hell.

For the past few months I've been wearing my hair out unprotected. Of course, the retention has been horrible. I've thought about going back to wearing lace wigs for the winter to gain the length I've lost.I am thinking about wearing a wig to my interviews. It is a very natural looking human hair lace wig I paid a lot of money for. And I'll be honest, my decision to wear a wig is in part because I'm not sure how one might react to 4b afro. Some see afros, twists/locs as too extreme. I don't want to eliminate myself from a position before I even open my mouth. And I don't want to press/straighten my own hair.

I registered for this event, Sounds Interesting

Regional Innovation Clusters: Advancing the Next Economy
http://www.americanprogress.org/events/2010/09/innovation_cluster/index.html

It is an all day event and it is free! Free is always good. I know most people wouldn’t want to watch policy speeches on their “vacation” time but I’m weird. I’m excited about it. This is the sort of thing I loved about living in DC, the opportunity to mix and mingle with policy makers and government types.

Another Unemployed Blogger Coming Through

I got laid off last week at my firm. This is my last week of work. It is terrifying but liberating at the same time. Terrifying because I have little savings and a lot of bills and the economy is horrible. It is hard to find any job in Vegas right now. The recession has hit us hard. It is always tough for an associate attorney to find work but I will keep my fingers crossed and already have a good job lead. And liberating because I needed a new start and to make new connections. I hope to find some new challenges and maybe a better opportunity somewhere else.

I had previously scheduled a vacation during the period that will be my first week out of work. Yay me! lol A vacation where I can’t spend any money. Anyway…

So while I have some downtime, I decided to start some blogs and writing projects I have been meaning to get around to. I had blogged on blogspot and livejournal for years but eventually lost interest. I had to leave livejournal because it was slowly becoming static. I think LJ will go the way of Xanga or more recently Vox and be a ghost in a couple of years.
